European Environment Agency Photo Contest: 1,000-euro prizes and free entry
The European Environment Agency has announced the 2026 “Resilient by Nature” photo contest, inviting photographers from across Europe, including Latvia, to participate.
🇱🇻 Latvian citizens are eligible to participate.
✅ Participation is free.
💶 The prize in each main category is 1,000 euros.
The goal of the contest is to show how nature helps society adapt to change, how ecosystems are threatened, and how people help them recover.
Can I participate from Latvia? Yes.
The contest is open to citizens of European Union member states, including Latvia. Participants must be at least 18 years old.
Photos must be taken in one of the European and partner countries listed in the contest rules. Latvia is on the list of eligible countries.
📸 Contest Categories
Entries may be submitted in three categories:
Harmony — the interconnection of natural processes and species, such as pollination, migration, ecosystem balance, and the rhythms of nature.
Disruption — the impacts of climate change, pollution, extreme weather, and human activity.
Renewal — nature’s regeneration, adaptation, habitat restoration projects, and community action.
In Latvia, works on the following topics would be well-suited for this competition:
* the Baltic Sea coast and dunes;
* bogs, forests, and floodplains;
* the aftermath of storms, droughts, or floods;
* nature conservation and restoration projects;
* the relationship between humans and nature;
* birds, insects, and other species in their natural habitats.
📮 What can be submitted?
Each participant may submit no more than five photographs. Each entry must be submitted separately.
The image must be at least 2,000 pixels on its longest side. The organizers recommend an even higher resolution—over 4,960 pixels.
Each photograph must be accompanied by a title and, optionally, a brief description in English of up to 1,000 characters.
🏆 Prizes
💶 1,000 euros — best photo in each of the three categories
💶 500 euros — People’s Choice Award
💶 500 euros — Youth Award for the 18–24 age group
A total of five winners will be selected. The finalists’ works will be used in the European Environment Agency’s publications and communication materials, with the photographer’s name credited.
